Major General Michael D. Navrkal is the Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Commander, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.
He serves as the principal advisor to the Deputy Commander on reserve component matters related to the command's diverse missions, including strategic deterrence, space and cyberspace operations, global strike, integrated missile defense and joint electromagnetic spectrum operations.
Maj. Gen. Navrkal most recently served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of the Army National Guard in Washington, DC. In this role he served as liaison between the Director and Headquarters, Department of the Army leaders as well as National Guard Bureau Joint leadership on matters related to manning, training and equipping of the Army National Guard. He also served as Department of the Army Tri-chair member on the National Commission on the Future of the Army implementation team.
Since his commissioning in 1981, Maj. Gen. Navrkal has held multiple leadership positions, from platoon leader to division commander.
Maj. Gen. Navrkal was the Commanding General of the 35th Infantry Division at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas from September 2013 to March 2016.
Additional command assignments include: Company Commander, A Company, 2nd Battalion, 134th Infantry Regiment; Battalion Commander, 168th Quartermaster Petroleum Supply Battalion; and Commander, 92nd Troop Command, all with the Nebraska Army National Guard. He also commanded the 867th Corps Support Battalion, Taji, Iraq, in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Significant staff assignments include: Squadron Operations Officer; Brigade Plans Officer; J3 and J4 at the Joint Forces Headquarters level; and Assistant Adjutant General-Army for the Nebraska National Guard. He also had a dual-hat assignment as the Deputy Commanding General (Operations), Training Support Division (West), First United States Army, Fort Hood, Texas from August 2012 to August 2013.
His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit (oak leaf cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two oak leaf clusters) and the Army Achievement Medal (two oak leaf clusters).
Maj. Gen. Navrkal graduated from University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and from Bellevue University with a Master of Science in security management. He later earned a master’s degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.
