USSTRATCOM Signs New Data Sharing Memorandum of Understanding

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) signed anew Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data sharing Memorandum ofUnderstanding (MOU) with the Italian Ministry of Defense, October 3, 2013.This agreement will permit the advanced exchange of SSA data. Italy joinsJapan's Ministry of Defense and Australia's Department of Defence inparticipating in these agreements.

"We're delighted to enter into an agreement that is mutually beneficial forour national security and space flight safety," said Commander, U.S.Strategic Command Air Force Gen. C. Robert Kehler.

The MOU streamlines the process for the Italian Ministry of Defense torequest specific information gathered by USSTRATCOM's Joint Space OperationsCenter at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. Such information iscrucial for launch support, maneuver planning, support for on-orbit anomalyresolution, electromagnetic interference reporting and investigation,support for launch anomalies and decommissioning activities, and on-orbitconjunction assessments.
