Major General William GrimsleyChief of Staff
Major General William Grimsley is Chief of Staff, United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
He is the principal advisor to the commander and deputy commander, United States Strategic Command, and directs the activities of the command staff by developing and implementing policies and procedures in support of the command's missions. He chairs numerous boards, oversees the command corporate process, and serves as director of the commander's staff.
He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1980 from ROTC at Davidson College, N. C.
His troop command and staff assignments include service as Rifle Platoon Leader, Weapons Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Company Executive Officer in 3d Battalion 19th Infantry in 24th Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.; Rifle Company Commander and Headquarters Company Commander in 1st Battalion 15th Infantry, and Brigade Plans Officer in 3rd Infantry Division at Kitzingen, Germany; Battalion S3 and Executive Officer, 2d Battalion 8th Cavalry and Division G3 Plans and Deputy G3, 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas; Commander, 2d Battalion 9th Infantry in 2d Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea; and Commander, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3d Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Ga.; Deputy Commanding General of the 4th Infantry Division, and the Deputy Commanding General of III Corps and Fort Hood.
MG Grimsley has additionally served as an Infantry Observer/Controller at the National Training Center; as Chief III Corps G3 Exercises; and on the Joint Staff in the Joint Strategic Initiatives Group and Iraq Division Chief within the J5 Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, and later as the Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense.
He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Armor Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies, and Army War College where he served as a fellow in the Advanced Strategic Arts Program. In addition to his Bachelor of Arts Degree, MG Grimsley has a Master of Military Arts and Sciences Degree and a Master of National Security and Strategy Degree.
MG Grimsley's awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2nd award), Bronze Star (2nd award), Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5th award), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medal, and several campaign and service awards. Additionally, he is awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Office of the Secretary of Defense and Joint Staff Identification Badges.
