
Rear Admiral Sandy Daniels

Rear Admiral Sandy Daniels entered the U.S. Naval Academy in June 1976 and was commissioned as an ensign in May 1980.
Daniels began flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla., in January 1981 and was designated as a Naval aviator in January 1982. Upon completion of pilot training, she reported to her first fleet assignment with Oceanographic Research Squadron (VXN) 8. While at VXN 8, she flew specially configured research P-3 Orions on missions worldwide.
Daniels was then assigned to the Naval Research Laboratory where, in addition to flying research missions, she was a military liaison to the Space Science Division, supporting a proof-of-concept space project and earned her Space Operations subspecialty designation. She then was assigned to the Naval Space Surveillance Center in Dahlgren, Va., where she was the fleet support officer and later the operational requirements division head. She completed the Alternate Space Surveillance Center and Alternate Space Defense Operations Center crew commander qualifications, directing watch teams responsible for processing space events and directing the worldwide space surveillance network. She left active duty in October 1991, and was commissioned in the Naval Reserves.
Daniels held numerous billets in the Space & Network Warfare (SPAWAR) Program, including with SPAWAR Space Field Activity units supporting the National Reconnaissance Office, before assuming command of Naval Reserve (NR) Naval Space Command 0766 as the plank owner commanding officer in December, 1998. During this time, she also worked on her Master of Arts degree in Science, Technology and Public Policy (Space Policy emphasis) from The George Washington University, completing it in 1996.
Daniels was then assigned as executive officer of NR Space and Electronic Warfare 0666 supporting N6. She assumed command of NR SPAWAR HQ 0866 as the plank owning commanding officer in September 2001. She was then selected for NR Strategic Command 0188 to support J5 on space plans and policy issues in 2003. Daniels was designated a Navy Space Cadre Expert (AQD VS4) in January 2006. She served as the director, Navy Space & Network Warfare Program from October 2005 through September 2007. She was then assigned as the reserve assistant communication Networks on the Chief of Naval Operation's staff (N6R) and from July 2008 - Oct 2009 served as director, Warfare Integration on the Chief of Naval Operations' staff (N6F).
In Oct 2009, she began her current assignment to United States Strategic Command as the Deputy Commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.
