United States Strategic Command Seal Colonel Gay "Charlie" M. McGillis is Deputy Chief of Staff, United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

In this capacity she assists the Chief of Staff, Deputy Commander, and Commander in the effective operations of United States Strategic Command, a unified command with a total of over 2,800 personnel. She exercises day-to-day oversight of the command staff operations and processes and conducts the Commander's Staff Call and is the principal interface between the Commander and the 55th Wing for base operations support.

Colonel McGillis earned her commissioning into the Air Force through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1987 at Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif. She also earned a Master of Military Arts and Sciences, School of Advanced Military Studies, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

Prior to her current assignment, Colonel McGillis was Chief, J2 Director's Action Group, USSTRATCOM. Other previous assignments Commander, 21 Student Squadron, Maxwell AFB, Ala; Deputy Director, Commander's Action Group, North American Aerospace Defense Command -U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo; Deputy Chief, Intelligence Analyst Branch, North American Aerospace Defense Command -U.S. Northern Command, Peterson AFB, Colo; Deputy Political Advisor, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill AFB, Fl; and Insurgency/Counterinsurgency instructor, U.S. Special Operations School, Hurlburt Field, Fl.

She is a graduate of the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Ala; School of Advanced Military Studies, Fort Leavenworth, Kan; Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan; and Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.

Her awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and Air Force Achievement Medal.
