Ballistic missile submarine USS Maryland arrives at HMNB Clyde, Scotland
The U.S. Navy ballistic missile submarine USS Maryland (SSBN 738) arrives at Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde, Scotland (Faslane), March 16, 2018. The port visit strengthens cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, and demonstrates U.S. capability, flexibility, and continuing commitment to its NATO allies. The Maryland, homeported in Kings Bay, Ga., is an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine. It is an undetectable launch platform for intercontinental ballistic missiles, providing the United States with its most survivable leg of the nuclear triad.
