Colonel Jason A. Schmidt is the Director for Human Capital (J1), United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. USSTRATCOM is comprised of 150,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians, and Civilians that are responsible for strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, global strike, missile defense, joint electromagnetic spectrum operations, analysis and targeting, and missile threat assessment; additionally, the Command provides the Secretary of Defense and the President a range of options to deter our adversaries and assure our allies.

The J1 Director leads the team responsible for providing Joint Force manning, human capital planning, headquarters strength management, human resource policies, and human capital efforts in direct support of USSTRATCOM operations. Colonel Schmidt oversees and implements the directorate plans, policies and procedures for attracting, hiring, developing, and retaining a balanced mix of civilian, contractors and joint military personnel to provide the Command with an agile and diverse workforce.

Colonel Schmidt graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1998, served as an Air Force Fellow in 2012, and was a distinguished graduate of the US Army War College in 2019.  His assignments include duties at the Squadron, Wing, Numbered Air Force, Major Command, Headquarters Air Force, and the Joint Staff.  Prior to his current position, Colonel Schmidt served as the Vice Commander, 501st Combat Support Wing, RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom.
