The Triad - Issue #1
This digital magazine offers a periodic review of United States Strategic Command's Nuclear Enterprise.
It weaves together stories from across USSTRATCOM's Combat-Ready Force. Numbering more than 40,000, these professionals represent the Command's headquarters near Omaha, Neb., plus components including Joint Force Air Component Commander at Barksdale AFB, La. and Joint Force Maritime Component Command at Naval Air Station Norfolk, Va.
"The Triad" is inspired by the weapons systems and warfighters integral to USSTRATCOM's mission, operating around the clock and around the world:
- Beneath the waves, operating one of 14 highly-survivable Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines
- Under the earth, ready to launch any of 400 highly-responsive intercontinental ballistic missiles
- In the sky, flying one of 140 highly-flexible strategic and conventional bombers across the globe
Connecting the triad with national leadership are Nuclear Command, Control and Communications. NC3 is often referred to as the 'fourth leg' of the triad.
Helping enable those connections is the Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Center. The JEC addresses the congested, contested and constrained electromagnetic spectrum environment.
Nearly 80 years of heritage and history make up the foundation of today's United States Strategic Command. "The Triad" tells the stories of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, guardians and civilians who stand always ready to, when directed execute their wartime mission and prevail in conflict.
