J7 Director, Joint Exercises, Training, and Assessments

Mr. Jeffery B. "JB" Miller, SES

Jeffrey B. Miller serves as the Director, US Strategic Command Joint Training and Exercises Directorate, J7. Prior to reporting to US Strategic Command, he served as the Deputy Director, US Africa Command Joint Training and Exercises Directorate, J7, and as Division Chief for Readiness, Training and Resources and the Joint Exercise Transportation Program Manager on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon.

Before joining the civilian service, he completed 30 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Captain and the Naval AttachĂ© at the United States Embassy London, United Kingdom. Previously, he served on the Joint Staff as Chief, Joint Exercises and Training Division. A native of Media, Pennsylvania, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering and was designated a Naval Aviator in July 1981. 

Captain Miller’s tours at sea include: Anti-Submarine warfare and Combat Search and Rescue helicopter (SH-3H/SH-60F/HH-60H) pilot, Division Officer and Department Head in Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadrons Six and Eight; Air Anti-Submarine Warfare and Assistant Operations Officer for Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group Three embarked in USS Enterprise (CVN 65); Commanding Officer of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Two; and following nuclear power training, Executive Officer in USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). Captain Miller participated in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom and has completed deployments with USS Ranger (CV 61), USS Enterprise (CVN 65), USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), USS Constellation (CV 64), and USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). He commanded USS Dubuque (LPD 8) during her deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Captain Miller’s previous shore tours include: United States Naval Test Pilot School and duty as an Engineering Flight Test Pilot for the SH-3D/G/H, VH-3D, and SH-60B/F helicopters at the Naval Air Test Center, Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Directorate; SH-60F Instructor pilot and Department Head in Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Ten; HS Readiness Officer for the Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Wing, United States Pacific Fleet; Operations Officer for the Helicopter Anti-Submarine Wing, Pacific; Assistant Program Manager for Multi-Mission Helicopters (PMA-299) working on the SH-60R helicopter program; and Aviation Commander Assignments Officer at the Naval Military Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee. 

Captain Miller has flown 4,800 flight hours in over 40 different military and civilian aircraft. His military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards. He also earned the Joint Meritorious Civilian Service Award and Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award.
