Pathfinder operations enable Bomber Task Force 23-4

KEFLAVIK AIR BASE, Iceland — U.S. Air Force Airmen deployed to Iceland on Aug. 13 to support Bomber Task Force 23-4, which is currently underway at Keflavik Air Base. Among the Airmen are several members of the 501st Combat Support Wing who are providing base operations support to enable missions for the aircrews and ground personnel of three B-2 Spirits from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.

5AMXS competes in 2023 Global Strike Challenge

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. — The 5th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron competed in the Global Strike Challenge here, Aug. 2-4. The Global Strike Challenge is an annual competition between units in Air Force Global Strike Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserve Command, and the Air National Guard consisting of several events assessing innovative thinking, teamwork, and competencies central to the AFGSC mission.

UH-1N Huey aircrew put water survival skills to test

MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. — Aircrew with the 40th Helicopter Squadron conducted underwater egress training to simulate a helicopter crash into water and practice safe egress in a disorienting situation.

B-52 Operational Test and Weapons School form “Super Squadron”

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — In an effort to expand operational test and accelerate capability to the warfighter, the 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron and 340th Weapons Squadron have come together to form an integrated team focused on testing and developing tactics for un-fielded B-52 Stratofortress systems.

Air Force engineers trek Montana mountain to service radio communications generator

MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. — Airmen from the 341st Civil Engineer Squadron made the mountainous trek up the peak of Highwood Baldy, Montana, on July 18, 2023, to perform monthly generator maintenance at a key radio repeater site for enterprise land mobile radio communications in preparation for the upcoming winter months.

U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) officially stood up the Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS) Operations Center (JEC) during a ceremony at USSTRATCOM today. The JEC will serve as the heart of the Department of Defense's Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations with the primary goal of restructuring accounts for force management, planning, situation monitoring, decision-making, and force direction.

Barons return home following Bomber Task Force deployment

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. — The 23rd Bomb Squadron’s world-famous “Bomber Barons” returned home from their most recent Bomber Task Force deployment to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, July 24. The contingent, composed of approximately 280 Airmen and four B-52H Stratofortress, logged hundreds of flight hours from dozens of sorties within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility during the six-week deployment. The BTF also provided an opportunity for the squadron’s aircrews, maintainers and support personnel to integrate with various allies and partners present in the region for unrelated military exercises.
