AFSPC assumes COMSATCOM procurement responsibility for DoD

PETERSON AFB, Colo. (AFNS) — The Air Force Space Command commander assumed responsibility for procurement of commercial satellite communications services for the Department of Defense from the Director of the Defense Information Systems Agency December 12. The move is in accordance with Section 1601(a) of the Fiscal Year 2018 National Defense Authorization Act.

KAUAI, Hawaii (Dec. 10, 2018) A Standard Missile (SM) 3 Block IIA is launched from the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Test Complex at the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Kauai, Hawaii, Dec. 10, 2018, to successfully intercept an intermediate-range ballistic missile target in space. This is the third successful intercept out of five intercept tests for the SM-3 Block IIA missile. Aegis shore-based facilities will be equipped with the SM-3 Block IIA missiles to strengthen America’s short- and intermediate-range missile defense strategy.

Nation’s only missile defense brigade celebrates 15 years of dedicated service to homeland defense

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Soldiers of the Colorado Army National Guard’s 100th Missile Defense Brigade (Ground-Based Midcourse Defense), will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the brigade’s activation with alumni, mission partners, and their families, and other officials Oct. 26, 2018, at a ceremony in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Participants conduct simulated space operations during the fifth international space experiment, Global Sentinel 2018 (GS 18), Sept. 19-28, at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, Virginia. The event provided an opportunity to develop and implement processes for partners from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and commercial entities to collaborate on combined space situational awareness (SSA) operations in order to enhance the quality and availability of satellite tracking information.
