USSTRATCOM Detects Attempted North Korean Missile Launch

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) systems detected what we assess was a failed North Korean intermediate-range ballistic missile launch at 3:30 p.m. CDT, May 30, 2016, from Wonsan.

Barksdale B-52s partner with Jordanian Forces in Exercise Eager Lion

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - Two B-52 Stratofortress bombers assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, returned today from a 35-hour, 14,000-mile nonstop mission to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to participate alongside partner Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF) in Exercise Eager Lion 2016.

Nominees enter the ball room during the 2015 U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Annual Awards ceremony, Omaha, Neb., May 13, 2016. More than 80 nominees, military members and civilians, from USSTRATCOM's headquarters, functional components and task forces attended the ceremony after being recognized within their respective units for outstanding support to the command's global strategic missions. Prior to the award presentations, each nominee was recognized during a medallion presentation ceremony. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting. U.S. Strategic Command Honors 2015 Annual Award Winners

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command commander, and U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Patrick F. McMahon, USSTRATCOM senior enlisted leader, recognized the 2015 USSTRATCOM Annual Award winners for their outstanding support to the command’s global strategic missions during a banquet in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, May 13.

USSTRATCOM Detects, Tracks North Korean Submarine Missile Launch

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) systems detected and tracked what we assess was a North Korean submarine missile launch from the Sea of Japan at 4:29 a.m. CDT.

This year marked the first time that all four University of Nebraska campuses [UNO, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Nebraska at Kearney] were involved in the program. The Strategic Leadership Fellows Program was launched in March 2014 as an initiative under the University of Nebraska's National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI), one of only 13 Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation.
