Enlisted Corps Spotlight for December

Name – SSgt Cory J. Drennan

Duty Title – J5 NCOIC

Hometown – Dayton, Ohio

Time in Service – 8 Years 3 Months

Q: How does your job support USSTRATCOM and our missions?

I directly support the J5 with processing packages through TMT and Awards/Decs/Evals for our personnel.  I ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and reach the J5 and even the STRATCOM CC for signature/review.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about your work at USSTRATCOM?

Knowing that important tasks are getting done timely, and knowing that tasks that I send out and manage, the 4 star sees are the most rewarding.

Q: What has been a challenge for you regarding your work at USSTRATCOM and how have you overcome that challenge?

A challenge of working at USSTRATCOM was working in a joint environment for the first time.  Having to learn ranks, and customs and courtesies of the other branches.  Making friends with personnel from other branches and attending their retirements, and promotion ceremonies have helped a lot in learning about them.

Q: What has been your most memorable experience in the military?

My deployment to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan has been my most memorable experience.  I got to work and support our Para Rescue personnel.  Having the opportunity to be a part of a team that is saving lives almost daily is very humbling.

Q: What is the one piece of information or advice about working at USSTRATCOM that you'd pass on to new members of the USSTRATCOM team?

STRATCOM can be a high tempo, busy place to work.  I would tell them to keep their head up and work hard.  It is a great opportunity working here for such an important mission, but also to find time for themselves.  Go out and enjoy yourself!
