U.S. Strategic Command Announces 2022 Omaha Trophy Recipients

By U.S. Strategic Command Public Affairs

Gen. Anthony Cotton, commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), announced the 2022 Omaha Trophy recipients today.

The Omaha Trophy is awarded each year to military units with intercontinental ballistic missiles, ballistic missile submarines, strategic bombers, and strategic space and information operations. The 2022 Omaha Trophy recipient organizations are:

- Intercontinental Ballistic Missile: 40th Helicopter Squadron, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana

- Ballistic Missile Submarine: USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740), Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia

- Strategic Bomber: 37th Bomb Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota

- Global Operations: Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma

“The brave men and women within the DOD give us the military advantage our adversaries dream of. The Omaha Trophy represents that advantage with our Nuclear Enterprise,” said Cotton. “This award is well-earned recognition for each command’s excellence in 2022.

The award was created in 1971 by the Strategic Air Command Consultation Committee (SCC) and awarded to the command’s best wing. The SCC, an advisory group of Omaha business leaders, later became the Strategic Command Consultation Committee after the current USSTRATCOM’s activation in 1992.

The Omaha Trophy is the highest honor bestowed upon a nuclear enterprise unit by a civilian organization.

“It is an honor for the SCC and its members to, along with USSTRATCOM, present the Omaha Trophy in recognition of exceptional performance by units supporting the USSTRATCOM mission,” said Dana Bradford, SCC Chairman.

The SCC has celebrated USSTRATCOM units for more than 50 years.

“We know it takes the dedication of the 150,000 men and women within USSTRATCOM to provide this highly capable strategic deterrence and if that were to ever fail, it will be these same men and women that will respond as the best equipped and resilient force in the world,” said Bradford.
