DOD News Release
Department of Defense announces the recipients of this year’s DoD Chief Information Officer Awards at a Pentagon ceremony today.
This year marked the 13th anniversary of the DoD CIO Award and is the highest honor recognized by the department for achievement in Information Management, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and Information Assurance. More than 100 nominations were submitted worldwide including both civilian government employees and military.
The applicants were evaluated based on their outstanding achievement in one or more of the following eight critical areas: acquisition; architecture and interoperability infrastructure; identity and information assurance and cyber operations; management and standards; synchronized and responsive operations and services; capital planning and optimized information technology investments; information management/technology/assurance workforce; and information sharing and data management.
The award winners were chosen because of their exemplary performance in improving information delivery and dissemination, management capability, cost reduction and savings, a broad user base, process, mission impact, and net-centricity.
Team awards were presented to:
First Place: Army Enterprise Email Migrations Team, U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (G-3), Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Their efforts improved enterprise architecture and services in support of expanding the DoD enterprise email system.
Second Place: Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) Team, Defense Information Systems Agency, Fort Meade, Md. Their efforts contributed to improving mission assurance through IT systems certification and accreditation governance.
Third Place: Enterprise Infrastructure Team, Joint Task Force-Capital Medical (JTF CapMed), Military Health System (MHS), Bethesda, Md. Their efforts improved medical data sharing through the consolidation of regional medical-treatment facility networks into a single network. Individual awards were presented to:
First Place: Mr. Charles (Dean) Corpman, Command & Control Section Chief, U.S. Strategic Command (J-864), Offutt AFB, Neb. He directly modernized a portfolio of nuclear command and control programs that contributed to the safety and security of the United States.
Second Place: Mr. John P. Howell, Product Director, U.S. Army Enterprise Email (PD EE), Fort Belvoir, Va. He led a collective effort to help solve multiple customer-specific technical and operational issues that resulted in the Army’s successful adoption of Defense Enterprise Email for more than 1.5 million unclassified and 100,000 classified users.
Third Place: Mr. Richard L. Ford, Program Manager, Identity Services Division, Defense Manpower Data Center, The MARC Center, Alexandria, Va. He implemented an innovative partnership program between the DoD and the Transportation Security Agency that leveraged existing information technology, resulting in expedited airport security screenings for a population of approximately 3.1 million military and DoD civilians.
