John Richards, guest speaker and Commander, Submarine Forces, cut the birthday cake at the Greater Omaha 111th Submarine Birthday Ball held Friday, April 8th, at the Scoular Building Ballroom in Downtown Omaha. <br><br>On April 11th, 1900, John P. Holland sold his internal combustion gasoline powered submarine, PCU HOLLAND (HOLLAND VI) (SS-1), to the Navy for $160,000 after demonstration trials off Mount Vernon, Virginia, marking the official birth date of the U.S. Navy&#039;s submarine force.
