OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. (March 19, 2014) Department of Defense officials board an E-4B National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC) aircraft at Offutt Air Force Base prior to a flight demonstration. The NAOC provides a flying command, control and communications center for the president, secretary of defense, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to direct U.S. forces, execute emergency war orders and coordinate actions by civil authorities. The flight was part of a day long U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) National Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Modernization Demonstration, which exhibited future senior-leader situation monitoring and decision-making capabilities.
