BANGOR, Wash. (April 11, 2014) Commander, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Adm. Cecil D. Haney is welcomed to Bangor by Commander, Submarine Group 9, Rear Adm. Dietrich Kuhlmann. Haney traveled to Bangor to speak to Sailors assigned to Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarine USS Nebraska (SSBN 739) and present them the 2013 Omaha Submarine Ballistic Missile Trophy. The Omaha Trophy, sponsored by Omaha's Strategic Command Consultation Committee, is awarded annually to four outstanding units that represent USSTRATCOM's mission areas, their role in global operations and USSTRATCOM's continued emphasis on strategic deterrence. USS Nebraska's Blue and Gold crews were selected based on formal evaluations, meritorious achievement, safety and other factors including community involvement and humanitarian actions.
