OMAHA, Neb. (July 14, 2014) Commander, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), Adm. Cecil D. Haney speaks at the 69th annual Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments. The conference drew an audience of state officials serving all three branches of government in 11 Midwestern states. Haney discussed USSTRATCOM's essential role detecting, deterring and preventing attacks against the U.S. and its allies, and the important relationship between military installations and the communities where they are located. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with space operations, missile defense, global command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, global strike and strategic deterrence, and combating weapons of mass destruction.
