Christine H. Fox, former acting U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense and Assistant Director for Policy and Analysis, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (center right), Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command commander (center left), Command Sgt. Maj. Patrick Z. Alston, U.S. Strategic Command senior enlisted leader (right) and Seaman Apprentice Matthew A. Judy, U.S. Strategic Command's most junior service member (left), cut a birthday cake during a formal ball to celebrate the twelfth birthday of U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Neb., Sept. 26. Fox, who spoke to the more than 400 attendees, heralded the command for its many missions and contributions to national security. "Let's just take a look at your UCP (Unified Command Plan) missions: strategic deterrence, space operations, cyberspace operations, joint electronic warfare, global strike, missile defense, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and combatting weapons of mass destruction. You know, I read that list, and I know what you do. And I sleep well at night. I sleep well because we have such a capable COCOM (Combatant Command) that takes care of us, and performs these critically important missions," she explained. Fox also said, "our nation, without really appreciating everything it is that you do, can sleep well at night without fear because of you."
