The Maritime Force Protection Unit consists of approximately 200 Coast Guardsmen and a small fleet of vessels tasked with escorting strategic submarines in and out of port.  Kowalski's visit allowed him to meet and thank the Sailors there for the work they do 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, in support of U.S. Strategic Command's top priorities to deter strategic attack and provide the nation with a safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent force.
