U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (front row, fourth from left), U.S. Strategic Command commander, welcomes faculty members and fellows from the Center for International Security and Cooperation, Stanford University, to Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., March 30, 2015. During their visit, the CISAC delegation received a USSTRATCOM mission brief from Haney, toured the Global Operations Center and discussed strategic deterrence, cyber responsibility and nuclear modernization with subject matter experts from the command. After visiting Stanford University in December to discuss strategic deterrence in the 21st century, Haney invited the CISAC representatives to USSTRATCOM headquarters as part of his ongoing effort to build enduring relationships with partner organizations from the private sector, academia and allied nations. CISAC is Stanford University's hub for researchers tackling some of the world's most pressing security and international cooperation issues, including nuclear risk and cooperation; cyber policy and security; and terrorism, insurgency and homeland security. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
