A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., docks with a KC-135 Stratotanker from Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, Apr. 2, 2015, to receive fuel in support of a U.S. Strategic Command-directed training mission, called "Polar Growl." During the joint and coalition training flight, the B-52 conducted a round-trip sortie from its U.S. home to the North Sea region, which allowed the aircrew to hone their navigation skills and enhance their ability to work with Allied partners. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
