U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (standing right), U.S. Strategic Command commander, U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Charles "Chas" Richard (left), Submarine Group 10 commander, U.S. Navy Seaman Louis Velasquez Perez (center), a fire control technician aboard the USS Georgia (SSGN 729) (Gold), and Ed Schuele, a submarine veteran, cut the ceremonial cake during the 115th U.S. Submarine Service Birthday Ball, Kings Bay, Ga., Apr. 11, 2015. As a submariner himself, Haney gave the keynote speech during the ceremony, which celebrated the achievements of submarine forces across the U.S. fleet. Submarine Group 10 operates both guided missile and ballistic missile submarines, the latter of which comprise the most survivable leg of the nation's nuclear triad, which also includes intercontinental ballistic missiles and strategic bombers. In keeping with military tradition, the most junior service member in attendance, Perez, who was officially qualified by Haney just prior to the photo, and the most experienced, Schuele, who was qualified in 1946, joined the two commanders in the ceremonial cutting of the cake.
