U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (right), U.S. Strategic Command commander, expresses his gratitude for the service of former Strategic Air Command and the current USSTRATCOM Elite Guard members at the command's headquarters, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., Aug. 1, 2015. The USSTRATCOM Elite Guard hosted SAC Elite Guard veterans and their families for a tour of the command's facilities to honor the service and heritage of those who defended the command and control facilities for the nation's strategic forces. The Elite Guard served as the primary security force providers for SAC and continued the mission following the formation of USSTRATCOM on Oct. 1, 2002. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
