U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, provides the keynote address during the Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness' (CNTA) annual Edward Teller Lecture and Banquet at the University of South Carolina Aiken's Convention Center, Aiken, S.C., Oct. 19, 2015. In his remarks, Haney discussed USSTRATCOM's global strategic missions and priorities. The CNTA is made up of citizens and companies in the Central Savannah River Area of South Carolina and Georgia that work to improve public knowledge on the benefits and comparative risks of nuclear activities. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
