U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (right), U.S. Strategic Command commander, and senior Department of Defense (DoD) leaders, including Gen. David L. Goldfein (center), U.S. Air Force vice chief of staff, and Ms. Stephanie O'Sullivan (fourth from right), Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, attend the Joint Interagency Combined Space Operations Center’s (JICSpOC) distinguished visitor day at Schriever Air Force Base, Colo., Jan. 26, 2016. The JICSpOC became operational in October 2015 through the partnership and collaborative efforts of USSTRATCOM, the National Reconnaissance Office, Air Force Space Command, the Air Force Research Laboratory, the intelligence community and commercial data providers who recognized the need to leverage existing Joint Space Operations Center (JSpOC) mission systems upgrades and include additional systems and capabilities from their respective organizations. These capabilities enable a more integrated unity of effort between the DoD and intelligence community as they confront the challenges of operating in the contested, congested and competitive space environment. Haney and other senior leaders attended the event to observe the JICSpOC’s capabilities, to receive an update on the experimentation conducted to date during the first phase of its operations and to discuss space-related issues. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
