Defense and diplomatic officials from the U.S. and Republic of Korea (ROK) pose for a photo in front of a B-52 Stratofortress, after touring the heavy bomber at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., Feb. 26, 2016. The B-52 tour was part of the fifth annual Deterrence Strategy Committee (DSC), a three-day event hosted by the U.S. at Vandenberg, and consisted of site visits, panel discussions, and a government-to-government Table Top Exercise (TTX). The DSC strengthens the U.S.-ROK alliance by leveraging the full range of plans, posture and capabilities between the two nations, and enhances the partnership through improved planning, command and control, exercises, training and capability development. The delegation also observed an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) operational test launch. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
