A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress strategic bomber from Minot Air Force Base, N.D., and a French air force Rafale fighter jet fly over France, April 20, 2016. The B-52 also conducted a flight over the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial in Marnes-la-Coquette, France, during a ceremony honoring the 268 Americans who joined the French air force before the U.S. officially entered World War I. During the ceremony, the B-52, four French air force Mirage 2000Ns, four U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors and a World War I-era Steerman PT-17 biplane performed flyovers to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Lafayette Escadrille formation. The flight was part of long-range, B-52 sortie to train and integrate with the French Air Force. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
