U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Stephen W. Wilson, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) deputy commander (left); Dr. John Christensen, University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) chancellor (second from left); Dr. Louis Pol, UNO College of Business Administration dean (right); Dr. Hesham Ali, UNO College of Information, Science and Technology dean (back row, center); and Mike Kemp, UNO associate athletic director (front row, sixth from right); pose for a photo with the 10 USSTRATCOM Strategic Leader Fellows Program participants after their graduation ceremony at the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha, Neb., April 22, 2016. During the event, Wilson and other senior leaders from the command joined University of Nebraska senior leaders and faculty in recognizing the Fellows for completing the 13-week program. While at UNO, the Fellows learned mission-oriented skills from national security and defense experts from the University of Nebraska in a classroom-based, hands-on environment. This year marked the first time that all four University of Nebraska campuses [UNO, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Nebraska at Kearney] were involved in the program. The Strategic Leadership Fellows Program was launched in March 2014 as an initiative under the University of Nebraska's National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI), one of only 13 Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
