Irving visited the facility to discuss the importance of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with members of USSTRATCOM and share stories behind many of his scientific achievements, which include becoming the youngest pilot to fly around the world in a single-engine airplane and conducting research expeditions on every continent except Antarctica. In 2003, Irving founded the Experience Aviation, a non-profit organization, and set up the Experience Aviation Learning Center to offer STEM-based programs and career guidance to middle school and high school students in the Miami area. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
