A Canadian CF-18 fighter jet intercepts a B-52 Stratofortress from the 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, La., over the Atlantic in support of POLAR ROAR, Aug. 1, 2016. The B-52 flew non-stop from the U.S. to the Baltic Sea and back to conduct the intercept training with NORAD-assigned Canadian fighter aircraft and NATO allies. In total, three B-52s and two B-2 Spirit bombers from all three of the U.S.’s strategic bomber bases (Barksdale AFB, La.; Minot AFB, N.D.; and Whiteman AFB, Mo.) participated in POLAR ROAR, which also included flights to the Arctic and Alaska's Aleutian Islands.
