Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, provides the keynote speech during a graduation ceremony at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's (UNO) Mammel Hall in Omaha, Neb., Aug. 25, 2016. In his remarks, Haney congratulated 18 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Department of Defense (DoD) civilians who were recognized for completing the first 10-week Joint and Combined Warfighting School satellite course at UNO. The course is the second of its kind - the pilot non-resident satellite JPME Phase II course in Tampa, Fla., was approved by Congress and launched in January 2013 - and represents the third option for field grade officers seeking JPME Phase II credit. Prior to the satellite courses, JPME Phase II courses were only offered at the National Defense University's Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) in Norfolk, Va. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
