Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander (left), meets with Gen. Vincent K. Brooks; United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and United States Forces Korea (UNC/CFC/USFK) commander; while attending a series of high-level discussions in Washington, D.C., Sept. 1, 2016. During the engagement, the two leaders met to discuss topics of mutual interest including deterrence, missile defense and other efforts in response to the evolving North Korean threat, and security in the Asia-Pacific region. Adm. Haney and Gen. Brooks also reviewed the U.S. response to North Korea’s continued development of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction. The meeting supported USSTRATCOM's continuing effort to build, support and sustain partnerships with ally nations and other Department of Defense (DoD) agencies to confront the broad range of global strategic challenges. It also reinforced the partnership between USSTRATCOM and USFK to deter North Korea, defend South Korea and ensure stability on the Korean Peninsula. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
