20161017 - Rear Adm. Thomas E. Ishee (left), U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike deputy commander, and Sailors from the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Houston (SSN 713) present a wreath at the Northampton-class heavy cruiser USS Houston (CL 81) Monument during a ceremony in Houston, Texas, Oct. 17, 2016. Ishee and local Sailors also met with corporate, civic and government leaders, including Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who signed a proclamation declaring it Navy Week in the city. Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy's principal outreach effort into areas of the country without a significant Navy presence, with 181 Navy Weeks held in 68 different U.S. cities. The program is designed to help Americans understand their Navy is deployed around the world, around the clock, ready to defend America at all times. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan that include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
