Deputy Commander of U.S. Strategic Command’s (USSTRATCOM) Joint Functional Component Command for Global Strike, Rear Adm. Thomas E. Ishee (right), and his wife Jerrilyn Ishee, greet U.S. Army WWII veteran Paul Curtis during Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home annual Veterans Day program in Bellevue, Neb., Nov. 11, 2016. The program celebrated the residents who live there along with veterans worldwide. Veterans Day was originally referred to as “Armistice Day” because it was celebrated on the same date that World War I hostilities ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. On June 1, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower officially changed the name to Veterans Day, celebrated on Nov. 11 each year, a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
