WASHINGTON - U.S. Air Force Gen. John E. Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), delivers remarks on 21st century strategic deterrence at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C., Sept. 20, 2017. Hyten also discussed his priorities and vision for USSTRATCOM, the need to move faster and not be outpaced by adversaries, and reinvigorating the national discussion on strategic deterrence. One of nine Department of Defense unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan that include strategic deterrence, space operations, cyberspace operations, joint electronic warfare, global strike, missile defense, and intelligence.
