OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), poses for a photo with Capstone 18-1 participants at the Dougherty Conference Center, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., Sept. 27, 2017. The Capstone program provides opportunities for new flag and general officers to learn from subject matter experts through discussions on a variety of defense-related issues. While here, participants received presentations on the nuclear triad and modernization, deterrence in the 21st century, arms control and verification, regional nuclear dynamics and non-proliferation, and nuclear security. One of nine Department of Defense unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan that include strategic deterrence, space operations, cyberspace operations, joint electronic warfare, global strike, missile defense and intelligence.
