OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - From left: Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; U.S. Navy Rear Adm. William Houston, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) plans and policy deputy director for strategic targeting and nuclear mission planning; U.S. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of USSTRATCOM; Lt. Gen. Jack Weinstein, Air Force chief of staff for strategic deterrence and nuclear integration; and Chief Master Sgt. Patrick McMahon, senior enlisted leader of USSTRATCOM; board the Airborne National Command Post (ABNCP) on the flight line at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., May 30, 2018. During a tour of the ABNCP, Houston briefed Reed on its capabilities and role in the nation’s nuclear command and control. U.S. Strategic Command has global responsibilities assigned through the Unified Command Plan that include strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, space operations, joint electromagnetic spectrum operations, global strike, missile defense, and analysis and targeting.
