Successful end to U.S. Strategic Command Exercise Global Lightning 14

U.S. Strategic Command conducted its annual exercise Global Lightning 14 from May 12-16 in coordination with other combatant commands, services, and appropriate U.S. government agencies to exercise its ability to deter and detect strategic attacks against the U.S. and its allies. Exercise Global Lightning 14 has been in planning for more than a year and was based on a notional scenario.

Long-range Training Flight Exercises Capabilities

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - Two B-52 Stratofortresses from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., and two B-2 Spirit bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., recently flew non-stop from their home stations to training ranges in Hawaii to exercise the President's credible and flexible military options to meet national security obligations to the U.S. and its allies. Part of the mission was to conduct coordinated range operations amongst multiple airframes as well as test low approach training capabilities before returning to their bases.

Haney, Commander, U.S. Strategic Command, recently announced the 2013 Omaha Trophy winners, an honor awarded annually to military units demonstrating the highest performance standards in USSTRATCOM's mission areas. Selections are based on formal evaluations, meritorious achievement, safety, and other factors such as community involvement and humanitarian actions.
