U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancers completed their deployment in support of Bomber Task Force Europe and returned to Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, Aug. 22, after participating in two weeks of Allied-led training events designed to advance joint warfighting capability, strengthen cooperation, and improve how U.S. and Allied forces operate together in high-threat environments.
Throughout the deployment, U.S. bombers and aircrews trained alongside the Norwegian Air Force to rehearse gaining access to contested airspace, targeting threats, and maintaining coordination in simulated areas where freedom of movement is constrained. The mission focused on improving how Allies share real-time threat information and make timely, coordinated decisions under pressure.
"The more we train, the more capability we build, and strengthen the bonds between our Airmen and our Allies," said Maj. Gen. Joseph L. Campo, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa Operations, Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration director. "By working side by side in demanding environments, we gain the trust, understanding, and readiness needed to meet future challenges together."
Allied partners led a series of high-end training missions that challenged aircrews to plan, communicate, and respond together in complex, realistic scenarios. The training reflected how integrated airpower strengthens deterrence and reinforces regional security.
As the bombers redeployed, they conducted a hot pit refuel at Lajes Field —a tactic that allows aircraft to land, refuel with engines still running, and return to flight quickly.
On their return to Dyess AFB the aircraft will integrate with a stateside exercise to continue building readiness and reinforcing long-range strike capabilities.
Bomber Task Force Europe is part of a recurring series of deployments that demonstrate the U.S. Air Force’s ability to project airpower globally and ensure forces remain ready to respond anywhere in the world while reinforcing defense of the homeland.
