OMAHA, Neb. (June 14, 2014) Commander, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Adm. Cecil D. Haney and USSTRATCOM senior enlisted leader Cmd. Sgt. Maj. Patrick Z. Alston, right, prepare to retire an American flag at the Boy Scouts of America Flag Day Breakfast. The breakfast honored active duty and veteran military personnel and commemorated the Continental Congress' resolution that "the flag of the U.S. be made of 13 stripes; alternate red and white; that the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." In his keynote speech, Haney emphasized the importance of Boy Scout values, including loyalty, selflessness and service to others, and drew parallels to military core values. USSTRATCOM is one of nine DoD unified combatant commands and is charged with space operations, information operations, missile defense, global command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, global strike, strategic deterrence, and combating weapons of mass destruction.
