Nation’s only missile defense brigade celebrates 15 years of dedicated service to homeland defense

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Soldiers of the Colorado Army National Guard’s 100th Missile Defense Brigade (Ground-Based Midcourse Defense), will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the brigade’s activation with alumni, mission partners, and their families, and other officials Oct. 26, 2018, at a ceremony in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Participants conduct simulated space operations during the fifth international space experiment, Global Sentinel 2018 (GS 18), Sept. 19-28, at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, Virginia. The event provided an opportunity to develop and implement processes for partners from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and commercial entities to collaborate on combined space situational awareness (SSA) operations in order to enhance the quality and availability of satellite tracking information.

USSTRATCOM Hosts Fifth Space Experiment with International Partners

SUFFOLK, Va. — U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) led its fifth international space experiment, Global Sentinel 2018 (GS 18), Sept. 19-28, at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, Virginia.

Combat Raider 19-1 keeps forces ready, lethal

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. — Aircrew from all 8th Air Force bases flew over the Powder River Training Complex together for the first time during Combat Raider 19-1 on Oct. 16-18. They coordinated with joint tactical air controllers from the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, who helped coordinate simulated air strikes from the ground.

Air Force extends high year of tenure for E-4s through E-6s

Arlington, Va. (AFNS) — The Air Force is extending the high year of tenure for senior airmen through technical sergeants beginning Feb. 1, 2019. The memo, signed Oct. 18, 2018, extends the high year of tenure from eight to 10 years for senior airmen, from 15 to 20 years for staff sergeants and from 20 to 22 years for technical sergeants.

The Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarine USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740) returns to its homeport at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga., following the completion of sea trails. Rhode Island recently completed a 33-month Engineered Refueling Overhaul, which will extend the life of the submarine for another 20 years.
