USSTRATCOM Detects Attempted North Korean Missile Launch

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. — OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) systems detected what we assess was a failed North Korean missile launch at 5:00 p.m. CDT, October 19, 2016, near the northwestern city of Kusong.

Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy's principal outreach effort into areas of the country without a significant Navy presence, with 181 Navy Weeks held in 68 different U.S. cities. The program is designed to help Americans understand their Navy is deployed around the world, around the clock, ready to defend America at all times. One of nine DoD unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions assigned through the Unified Command Plan that include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; global strike; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting. ROK CJCS Visits USSTRATCOM, Discusses Extended Deterrence

10/12/2016 — OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. – Republic of Korea (ROK) Army Gen. Lee Sun-Jin, Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, visited U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, and other USSTRATCOM senior leaders Oct 11-12 here, to discuss the overall importance of the U.S. and ROK partnership.

USS Tennessee arrives in Scotland for port visit

10/7/2016 — OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Nebraska – This morning the ballistic missile submarine USS Tennessee (SSBN 734) arrived at Her Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde, Faslane, Scotland, for a regularly scheduled port visit.

Senior leaders from six of the nation's 10 Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) and three of the 14 University Affiliated Research Centers (UARC) meet with Adm. Cecil D. Haney (center), U.S. Strategic Command commander, during their visit to USSTRATCOM headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., Sept. 29, 2016. While here, leaders participated in roundtable discussions on projects and capabilities of their respective organizations. They also received briefings on USSTRATCOM challenges in the 21st century and toured the command's Global Operations Center. USSTRATCOM hosts first roundtable discussion with FFRDCs and UARCs

Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, and representatives from the command hosted senior leaders from Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) and University Affiliated Research Centers (UARC) for roundtable discussions at the command’s headquarters, Sept. 29.

Participants conduct simulated space operations during the third Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Tabletop Exercise (TTX)/GLOBAL SENTINEL 16 (GS-16) in Suffolk, Va., Sept. 28, 2016. OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) led the third Space Situational Awareness (SSA) Tabletop Exercise (TTX) / GLOBAL SENTINEL 16 (GS-16), Sept. 21-30, at the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, Virginia. The event provided an opportunity to develop and implement processes for partners from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and commercial entities to collaborate on combined SSA operations.
