Department Prioritizes Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority, Implementing 2020 Strategy
ARLINGTON, Virginia — The Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin III signed the 2020 Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority Strategy’s Implementation Plan (EMSSS I-Plan) on July 15. The Strategy’s I-Plan provides the Department of Defense with the direction and executive oversight needed to achieve the Strategy’s vision of “freedom of action in the electromagnetic spectrum, at the time, place, and parameters of our choosing.”

USSTRATCOM commander travels to INDOPACOM, reaffirms commitment to extended deterrence, regional security

U.S. Strategic Command explores ways to increase JEMSO planning
OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. — U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) sponsored a Joint Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (JEMSO) table top exercise (TTX), in Suffolk, Virginia, June 29 through July 1. The TTX focused on furthering the integration of JEMSO into the war-gaming construct and its role in supporting Joint Task Force situational awareness, deception actions, and integrated multi-domain superiority against a near-peer threat in a 2030 scenario.

USSTRATCOM Airman saves four people, awarded Airman's Medal for heroic actions
OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. — Staff Sgt. Donald Thomas, was presented the Air Force’s Airman’s Medal by U.S. Navy Adm. Charles Richard, U.S. Strategic Command commander, during a ceremony here Aug. 21. The Airman’s Medal instituted on July 6, 1960, is awarded to service members who distinguish themselves by a heroic act, usually at the voluntary risk of their own life while not involving combat.

625th STOS installs new virtual trainer
BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. — The 625th STOS, an 8th Air Force unit located at Offutt AFB, received a new virtual trainer in June 2020. The trainer will allow Air Launch Control System (ALCS) operators to continue training and remain proficient in-house, following the loss of their legacy trainer during the flood at Offutt in March 2019.

A B-52 exercises Dynamic Force Employment with Joint partners in Indo-Pacific
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — One B-52 Stratofortress bomber from the 96th Bomb Squadron, 2nd Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, took off from home station and participated in a maritime integration exercise with the USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan carrier strike groups in the South China Sea before landing at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
