The alliance includes 23 local and national universities and was started in Oct. 2014 to stimulate new thinking and develop future generations of deterrence practitioners. U.S. Strategic Command, Other Experts Discuss Deterrence at UNO

U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, and other defense and academic experts promoted cooperation, collaboration and innovation, March 3, during the two-day 2016 Deterrence and Assurance Workshop and Conference at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) College of Public Affairs and Community Service.

A B-52 Stratofortress takes off from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., Feb. 26, 2016, headed to Moron Air Base, Spain. During the short-term deployment, three of the multi-role heavy bombers and more than 200 Airmen assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing will integrate and train with U.S. European Command components and regional allies and partners by participating in the Norwegian exercise Cold Response. USSTRATCOM Commander Announces 2015 Omaha Trophy Winners

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. - In recognition of outstanding support to U.S. Strategic Command’s (USSTRATCOM) strategic deterrence, space and cyberspace missions, U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, USSTRATCOM commander, announced the winners of the 2015 Omaha Trophies at USSTRATCOM Headquarters on Feb. 3, 2016.

During the event, Haney and other senior leaders from the command joined University of Nebraska senior leaders and faculty in recognizing the 10 USSTRATCOM Fellows for their selection into the program. The 13-week course brings civilian employees together with national security and defense experts from the University of Nebraska for a classroom-based, hands-on learning opportunity that will provide graduate-level leadership development. UNO, the University of Nebraska and USSTRATCOM launched the initiative in March 2014 under the University of Nebraska's National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI), one of only 13 Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) in the nation.
